Canton is most known as the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a five-building complex where the greatest names in football are honored. Every summer, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival draws thousands for induction ceremonies, games, food festivals, and other events.
Canton is the largest city in and the county seat of Stark County. The downtown area of Canton has become a center for law, government, banking, finance, and the arts. The city is experiencing an urban renaissance, exemplified by its thriving arts district featuring historic buildings converted into modern businesses and apartments. The Cultural Center for the Arts is home to the Canton Museum of Art, Voices of Canton, the Players Guild Theatre, the Canton Symphony Orchestra, and the Canton Ballet. Entertainment venues in Canton include the Canton Memorial Civic Center, which is home to the city’s professional basketball team, the Canton Charge, and the restored Palace Theatre, which is the site for many live performances and films. Historic and educational sites in Canton include the National First Ladies’ Historic Site, the McKinley Memorial, the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum, and the Hoover Price Planetarium.
Canton has an exceptional park system, composed of 59 city parks. Monument Park and Stadium Park are the most popular, the latter of which is home to the Canton Garden Center with a John F. Kennedy Memorial Fountain and a walking trail.

Nearby Schools and Higher Education
Canton is served primarily by the Canton City School District, although students in the northwest region attend schools in the Plain Local School District, and Canton Local School District serves the better part of Canton South. Canton is home to a number of private schools, including countless Catholic school options. Universities and colleges located in Canton include Malone University, Walsh University, Stark State College, and a small annex for Stark State College.

Canton was founded in 1805, then later incorporated as a village in 1822 and re-incorporated as a city in 1838. The town was named after Canton (or Guangdong), China, by Bezaleel Wells, the surveyor who divided the town’s land.
Canton served as the adopted home of President William McKinley. He practiced law in Canton in 1867, and was the prosecuting attorney of Stark County from 1869 to 1871. McKinley resided in Canton during his successful campaign for Ohio governor, in addition to his campaigns for presidency in 1896 and 1900. The city of Canton honors his legacy today with the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum and the McKinley National Memorial.
Canton has a rich history in American football, as it is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and is the birthplace of what eventually became the National Football League.
